Everything you need to know before your first bid — in plain English.

Bidding Max Bids How Lots Close After You Win

Bidding

How do I start?

Register for free — it only takes about two minutes. Browse the auction, watch items, and explore without placing a bid. When you're ready, every lot starts at just $1 and sells to the highest bidder.

Can I cancel a bid?

Because bids are binding, they generally cannot be canceled. You'll always be asked to confirm before placing a bid, so please bid carefully.

What's a Quick Bid?

Tap the Quick Bid button to place the next minimum bid. You'll always see a confirmation before your bid is submitted, so there are no accidental bids.

Max Bids — Set your limit. We'll do the bidding.

How does a Max Bid work?

Enter the highest amount you're willing to pay, and we'll automatically bid for you — only by the minimum amount needed, and only if someone bids against you. We'll never exceed your limit, and your Max Bid is always private.

Say you set your max at $500
Someone bids $320→ we bid $330 for you. You're winning.
Someone bids $400→ we bid $410 for you. Still winning.
Nobody beats $500
✅ You win for $410 — not $500.

You only pay enough to stay in the lead — not your full Max Bid unless another bidder pushes you there.

Can anyone see my max?

No. Your Max Bid is completely private. Only you and the system know your maximum — other bidders never see it.

Why am I not winning when I bid the same amount as the high bidder?

Ties go to whoever set their max first. If another bidder already had a max bid of $20 in place and you bid $20, their bid wins the tie — they committed to that number before you did.

Example: current bid is $10, and the high bidder has a secret max of $20
You bid $11→ their auto-bid answers at $12. They're still winning.
You bid $20 — matching their max→ current bid becomes $20, but they hold it. First max wins the tie.
You bid $21→ now you're the high bidder.

To beat an existing max, you have to go past it — matching it isn't enough. This is standard at every auction house, and it's one more reason to set your true max early.

What if I get outbid immediately?

That's normal! Another bidder may have entered a higher Max Bid. Simply place another bid — or enter your own Max Bid if you're still interested.

How lots close

What's a soft close?

If someone bids during the final 5 minutes, the countdown extends another 5 minutes. This gives everyone a fair chance to respond and prevents last-second "sniping."

How do I know if I've been outbid?

We'll notify you as soon as you're outbid. Your My Bids page also shows every item you're bidding on — green if you're winning, coral if you're outbid — making it easy to jump back in with one tap.

After you win

What do I pay?

Your total is your winning bid plus an 18% Buyer's Premium. You'll always see your total before confirming a bid — no surprises later.

How do I get my item?

Pick up at our yard, where our team will help load your item. Need shipping? We can arrange freight throughout the Southeast — just ask for a shipping quote before bidding so you know your total cost.

That's all of it. Ready?
